Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuaín is set to skip playing in the English Premier League for a chance to join French football club Paris Saint-Germain, recent reports say.

Caught Offside reported that this season's top Italian Serie A goalscorer has "made a decision on his future" as he had already "flown to the French capital to begin talks with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain about the prospect of a possible move to the club this summer".

English top flight squads Manchester United and Chelsea were reported to have keen interest in the 28-year-old Argentine forward, who finished the current term with a record-breaking 36 goals in 35 appearances in the Italian domestic competitions, but Les Parisiens have overtaken them in the prize of landing Higuaín in the offseason.

The French-born Argentinian is said to be the perfect replacement for Sweden national team skipper Zlatan Ibrahimović, who was recently allowed to exit Parc des Princes as his current contract with PSG had expired.

While Higuaín will certainly not immediately fill up the huge shoes of Ibrahimović in PSG, The Sun noted that he "is as good as they come" as the Brest, France native is considered as one of the best strikers in the world today.

In three seasons with Napoli, Higuaín scored 91 times in a total of 146 games in all competitions, with the recently concluded term as his most prolific. His scoring is on an upward trend, which makes him a prized catch this summer as he is still in his prime form.

Incoming Blues coach Antonio Conte is said to be interested in snagging the Argentine for his new squad next season while another incoming manager, United's Jose Mourinho, is also keen on having him.

However, the two veteran bench tacticians are set to be disappointed with the latest developments regarding Higuaín.

Higuaín topped the Italian top flight in scoring this season, a long 17 goals away from second-highest scorer Paulo Dybala of Juventus who had 19 goals in 34 appearances for the Serie A champions.

Higuaín also had two assists with a 58 percent shot on target accuracy. His scoring rate is 83 minutes per goal as he scored 36 in 2,977 minutes of playing time this season.
