Floyd Mayweather has teased a comeback since the start of this month and according an ESPN analyst, the 50th fight is already booked.
There were already rumors after his interview with Showtime, then there was the ESPN report that exposed how Mayweather Productions filed for trademarks to "TMT 50" and "TBE 50" in late April. TMT stands for "The Money Team" and "TBE" is for the The Best Ever which Floyd wants to be remembered as. Of course, 50 referred to his 50th fight.
In a Jalen and Jacoby podcast, ESPN analyst Jalen Rose reiterated an announcement he made on Friday (May 20) podcast that the fight between Mayweather and former UFC fighter Conor McGregor will push through.
Rose's partner, David Jacoby asked him to repeat his announcement and Rose did not back down. He clearly gave specific details. At around the 14:00 minute mark Rose said that Mayweather will go for an unprecedented 50th professional win against Conor McGregor.
He called the fight date at September 17 in Las Vegas, possibly at the new T-Mobile arena or the MGM Grand. Rose even admitted that "I already got my room booked." Rose even tweeted about it on Friday giving clues but not the actual names.
More sources are corroborating this claim. Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd also broke the news in his podcast "The Herd" (transcription from MMA Fighting). He claims the official announcement will be made in two weeks.
"News I believe is gonna break here in about 2 weeks...I have already booked two rooms, September 17th and 18th in Las Vegas. My intel is Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is going to happen. It changed late last week. I got a call then somebody else sent me something [Sunday] and Saturday. We've booked rooms in Vegas. [It's happening] this September," Cowherd announced.
Cowherd also stated the rationale for this right.
"Mayweather did have a very bad last pay per view gate - 550,000 people, he tries to get 2 to 3 million. So I think this is the most profitable fight for CBS and Mayweather. CBS has been working with Mayweather for years. That's why his fights are on Showtime, because CBS owns Showtime."
With two professional sports figures staking their reputations on this, is it safe to say that the fight is confirmed? The only way to be certain is to wait for the official announcement, allegedly in two weeks.
