Google Nexus 2016 Release Date Coming Soon as LG Nexus 5X Down to $230, HTC Halts Nexus 9 Production?

The new Nexus 5X phone is displayed during a Google media event on September 29, 2015 in San Francisco, California.

Google has decided to skip on providing details for its Nexus 2016 release date plans during the I/O event last week but rumors say unboxing of the Pure Android flagship smartphone is likely to happen no later than August this year. And two new indicators appear to support this assumption - the LG Nexus 5X is down to $230 on eBay while HTC has officially pulled the Nexus 9 tab out of production.

Such pre-release adjustments on Google's part hinted two things for Android fans. One is that the sequel to the Nexus 2015 phones could be arriving soon with the existing models becoming the subject of promo deals. And HTC, rumored as Google's partner for producing two Nexus handsets this year, could be gearing up for the mass production of the next-generation vanilla Android devices so axing the Nexus 9 will focus the Taiwanese firm on the current task.

The official statement from HTC on the matter, according to CNET, is that "it had completed its manufacturing run of the Nexus 9." The move was made following Google's decision to stop displaying the Nexus tab, once touted as a solid Apple iPad rival, at the Play Store in April.

So with HTC's attention all trained on the next Nexus assembly, the wholesale manufacture of the 2016 builds could already be underway but prior to the rollout the old stocks need to cleared out first. And that precisely is the case of the LG-made Nexus 5X, which likely will get wiped out as the sticker price for the basic 16GB unit is knocked off by $150.

The 5X asking price on eBay, according to Android Headlines, is at its lowest level of $299 with the seller advertising of a brand new device. The package will let out of the box the known Nexus 5X specs: a 5.2-inch display that boasts of 1080p screen resolution, the combo of SD 808 and 2GB RAM as the power source and a camera system of 12-megapixel on the main shooter and 5-megapixel on the secondary cam.

The star of the Nexus 5X show is the latest Android Marshmallow version, which Nexus fans know will readily update to Android N once it is hot and ready to roll.

And that likely will happen in August 2016, seen not only as the perfect timing for the final cut of Android N to touchdown but also the Google Nexus 2016 release date.
