"The Vampire Diaries" alum Nina Dobrev recently returned to the hit The CW series to lend her voice to her character Elena Gilbert.

Following her exit from the franchise after season 6, Dobrev moved on to pursue other projects and was never featured in present-day scenes. It was only during the finale episode for season 7 that she returned and fans welcomed her with open arms.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Ian Somerhalder's wife Nikki Reed.

According to Hollywood Life, the "Sleepy Hollow" actress felt uncomfortable with the idea that Dobrev is back and that she would physically return to the series during the finale episode for season 8.

However, Reed doesn't have much say when it comes to Dobrev's return because executive producer Julie Plec previously said that she already has an idea how Dobrev's Elena will reunite with Somerhalder's Damon.

"The show did so much for Ian and Nina's careers and put them on the map. For Julie Plec and the other writers and creators, they feel like they owe it to them to suck it up and send the show off any way they want to send it off. At the end of the day, they are professionals, and that would win out over any drama," a source told the publication.

Meanwhile, the publication also claimed that Dobrev is confirmed to return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 for more than one episode.

Previously, Plec said that she's only looking into inviting Dobrev for the last episode of "The Vampire Diaries."

"At this very moment, it is expected that Nina will be a part of the show on a very limited basis. There is still tons of time to figure it all out and deal with proper scheduling, but it is going to be a less is more type of situation to finish her story," the source said.

As of late, none of these statements have been confirmed or denied by Dobrev, Reed, Somerhalder or Plec.

In other news, Somerhalder and Kat Graham have confirmed their exit from "The Vampire Diaries" at the end of the season 8.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on The CW sometime this year.
