Kevin Spacey plays President Frank Underwood in Netflix's "House of Cards," which is expected to start its fifth season in March 2017.

"House of Cards" protagonist Frank Underwood is modelled after the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Show creator Beau Willimon revealed these details along with other interesting tidbits about the popular show.

In an interview with Sydney Morning Herald, Willimon revealed that the author of the book series Michael Dobbs used to work as the Chief of Staff of Thatcher. When he was fired from his position then he was so angry that he was thinking of "F-U" and he used his rich experience to pen down the popular series.

The moniker "F-U" led Dobbs to name the protagonist as Francis Urquhart. However, in the television adaptation of the book he is named as Frank Underwood.

Willimon also revealed the riddle behind Underwood's sexuality. He was asked whether the President is bisexual, gay or straight. Willimon revealed that the President has a large appetite for sex but the latter loves power more.

In the upcoming "House of Cards" Season 5 the pilot episode is rumored to show the demise of the President. In his place, his wife Claire Underwood will step in and assume her place as the first female President in the Oval Office.

The President's right hand man Doug Stampner and the First Lady's aide Leann Harvey will also engage in a relationship. They hated each other at first but soon developed a fondness, which culminated in a relationship.

The First Lady will exploit Harvey and Stampner's relationship for her own benefit. Her rise to power in Season 5 will be meteoric and there are also rumors that she may herself kill her husband in order to become the President.

In other news, actress Robin Wright who enacts the role of the First Lady in the show recently demanded equal pay as Kevin Spacey. According to Huffington Post, Wright feels that very few TV shows are produced in which the female lead has a substantial role as the male lead.
