'The Legend of the Blue Sea' is an upcoming 2016 South Korean television series starring Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho.

Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun are coming together to star in a drama series that is slated to air on Seoul Broadcasting Station (SBS). The Hallyu superstars are expected to take on the lead roles for the "Legend of the Blue Sea."

According to Yonhap News Agency, the drama is likely to begin its run in November 2016. It was added that this will be another work of mega-hit screenwriter Park Ji Eun. She was the same person who wrote the 2013 blockbuster drama "My Love from the Star" which made Kim Soo Hyun an Asian superstar.

Park personally picked Lee and Jun for her newest project and she is confident that the pair will be able to create another hit series that will be loved by the audience around Asia and beyond. The producers already confirmed that the two A-list stars have officially accepted the roles after reading the drama's synopsis.

The actors also agreed to do the project because aside from having great trust to the writer, they strongly believe in the director too. Moreover, Park specially created the lead characters that will match Jun and Lee if they are a real couple, MBN Star has learned.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" is a fantasy romance drama that is said to be the Korean adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's most popular fairy fiction called "The Little Mermaid." The story will also feature hints of Korea's own historical mermaid tale.

Although the drama is still in the pre-production phase, many producers are already expressing their interest in buying its distribution rights. It was said that the leading Chinese streaming sights are fighting to get the rights by offering the producers huge amount as starting bids. Reportedly, the interested companies are willing to pay as much as $495,000 per episode.

"Legend of the Blue Sea" will mark Jun's return to small screen. She previously went on hiatus after getting pregnant and giving birth to her first child. On the other hand, this will be Lee's comeback drama since starring in "Heirs" in 2013.
