All eyes in South Korea are on the 52nd Baeksang Art Awards being held on June 3, Friday night, at the Kyung Hee University’s Grand Peace Hall.
Among the nominees that a lot of Korean Hallyu fans are waiting for is "Descendants of the Sun" and its actors. According to Hancinema, the 16-episode blockbuster is nominated in five categories.
The show is one of the five nominees for the Best Drama show. Its competition are “She Was Pretty,” “Signal, “”Six Flying Dragons” and “Answer Me 1988.”
“Descendants of the Sun” directors Baek Sang-hoon and Lee Eung-bok are nominees for Best Director award, along with Jeong Dae-yoon, Kim Won-seok, Sin Kyeong-soo and Sin Won-ho, whose shows are also Best Drama nominees listed above, respectively.
Song Joong-ki is a nominee for Best Leading Actor for his role in “Descendant of the Sun.” He competes against Namgoong Min for “Remember,” Yoo Ah-in for “Six Flying Dragons,” Jo Jin-woong for “Signal” and Joo Won for “Yong Pal.”
For Best Leading Actress, Song Hye Kyo of “Descendant of the Sun” is a nominee, along with Kim Hye-soo of “Signal,” Ra Mi-ran of “Answer Me 1988,” Kim Hyeon-joo of “I Have a Lover” and Hwang Jeong-eum of “She Was Pretty.”
“Descendants of the Sun” writers Kim Eun-sook and Kim Won-Seok-II are nominated for Best Screenplay, competing with Kim Yeong-hyeon and Park Sang-yeon of “Six Flying Dragons,” Kim Eun-hee-I of “Signal,” Lee Woo-jeong-I of “Answer Me 1988” and Yang Hee-seong of “Oh My Ghostess.”
The MCs for the awards night are Suzy of miss A and Shin Dong-yup.
