North Carolina Killings, 1 Caucasian Atheist, 3 Muslims: Are Hate Crimes Hard To Prove?

Chapel Hill Murder

Three Muslims were killed over a parking dispute in an apartment complex near a university in North Carolina on Feb. 10, Tuesday night.

A Caucasian atheist was charged with three murders. The family of the three Muslim victims, Deah Shaddy Barakat, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, obviously think that what happened is more than just a parking dispute, according to Washington Post.

Craig Hicks, the murder suspect, killed them execution style just because they were Muslims. This is very clear to the families of the assassinated. Pinning the reason of the case to merely a parking problem is visibly ignoring the facts.

Abdel Kader Barakat, Deah's cousin, thinks that it is too petty to kill over a parking issue.  "I mean, who would kill somebody over a parking spot?" he asked.

All crimes will be investigated with the objective to follow the leads and the evidence found related to the crime, and hope that justice will be served.  Religion should not be a basis to think that someone deserved to die because of beliefs and faith, Politicus USA reported.

Authorities were called to the crime scene near the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill at around 5 p.m. Police found the three dead bodies of the Muslim students. Few hours later, Hicks went to surrender himself to the police.

The three victims are advocates of different Muslim humanitarian organization, Barakat raised thousands of dollars for dental care of people during the crisis in Syria; Mohammed, the new bride, is yet to study dentistry in August and the younger Mohammed supported charities like Global Deaf Muslim.
