"God of War" is an action-adventure video game series loosely based on Greek mythology, originally created by David Jaffe at Sony's Santa Monica Studio.

"God of War's" new character, the son of Kratos, will be a competent AI partner for the protagonist with his special skills. Creative director Cory Barlog also explained why the new game is not called "God of War 4."

Barlog explained that he is the only one among the unlikely pair to understand the ancient language of the Norse, and that makes him an essential partner for his father, according to Dual Shockers. It is also evident that the child has different tattoo markings across his arm and hand, which were written in runes. The language looks like to be Old Norse, and it indicated phrases that summon strength, speed, and luck.

In an interview, Barlog explained to Venture Beat the reason why the title of the fourth iteration of the game did not have the number four in it. He said that the decision was deliberate by the development team since the previous games were in the Greek era, and the Norse era is a changeover. He added that putting a number in the title would seem like it was just another sequel, not a re-imagining of the title.

This new game will be another story of the protagonist's life and it will be the story of him and his son, said Barlog. His son will be an AI that will also be easy to control, rather than letting him to be an independent AI, but also at the same time, he will be able to enter fights and maneuver around the battlefield. Players will only use the main character when they are playing the game, which most gamers want recently when it comes to games that have companions with them.

During the E3 2016 demo, there were features in the game that the audiences noticed right away, especially the graphical user interface that contained three icons. Barlog explained that these icons were just stand-ins for the moment since the demo only showed the earliest development of the game. He added that these icons were meant to be the specials for Kratos that he can swap out during a fight.
