Powerhouse team Jiangsu Suning FC nipped struggling squad Chongqing Lifan FC, 2-1, in a 2016 Chinese Super League season game held at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre in Jiangsu on June 19, Sunday.

Brazilian winger Alex Teixeira, who was acquired by the club last January for the now-standing Chinese transfer record of €50 million (£37 million) from Ukrainian Premier League team Shakhtar Donetsk, scored the winning goal of the match during stoppage time after one goal from each side made it a 1-1 stalemate within regulation time, CCTV English reported.

The hosts would have taken the lead at the 37th minute but Brazilian striker Jô's successful header near the penalty spot was ruled offside by referee Chen Gang.

Chongqing winger Wang Dong then broke the deadlock right at the stroke of halftime as he netted the game's opening goal by zigzagging across a line of defenders and shooting it past the outstretched arms of Jiangsu goalkeeper Gu Chao.

Jiangsu was able to equalize the match when midfielder Liu Jianye's long range power shot hit Chongqing defender Liu Yu and deflected towards the net for an own goal at the 58th minute.

The game remained tied from then on even as the full time whistle sounded. A huge chance came for Jiangsu in injury time, however, and they were able to take advantage of it.

Liu again shot from long range towards the goal and Jô caught it with a header over to the streaking Teixeira, who beat Chongqing goalkeeper Deng Xiaofei with a soft tap from just outside and right in the middle of the 6-yard box for the winner, as per Soccerway.

It was Jiangsu's eighth win of the current term and their second in the last three games in the China first division domestic competitions since former head coach Dan Petrescu was sacked and replaced by interim manager Tang Jing.

Former FC Seoul striker Choi Yong-soo is recently named as the new head coach of Jiangsu and he will be the one to oversee the squad in their next game versus defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande on Friday.

Meanwhile, it was Chongqing's fourth loss in their last five outings. They were able to snap a three-game losing slide in their previous win over Hangzhou Greentown, 1-0, but Jiangsu put them back to earth with another loss, the team's sixth of the current season after 14 rounds so far.
