Cast member Liam Cunningham reveals impact of Shireen's death on Davos and Melisandre's relationship.

The season finale of "Game of Thrones" Season 6 was filled with shocking and intriguing scenes that may have surprised many fans. Cast member Liam Cunningham has recently shared his thoughts on his character's Davos' discovery of Shireen's death and his confrontation with Melisandre.

The season 6 finale of the HBO series titled "The Winds of Winter" that aired on Sunday, June 26, featured storyline developments that have managed to tie up some loose ends of the show's plot details. One of these scenes included the confrontation between Cunningham's Davos and Carice van Houten's Melisandre. Avid "Game of Thrones" viewers may recall that Melisandre burned Davos' friend Shireen alive in a previous season. In episode 9 of the current season, Davos has finally discovered Melisandre's bad deeds.

In an interview with Tech Insider, Cunningham compared the discovery of Shireen's death as a "punch to the chest." He explained that what made it devastating was the fact that his character has been trying to mend his relationship with the Red Woman. The two characters previously disagreed with one another. Davos and Melisandre only started to work together to support Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

Cunningham also shared some of the difficult scenes that he had in the sixth season of "Game of Thrones." The said scene involved Davos telling Melisandre that she was right. The actor explained that the dialogue may appear simple to some, yet for his character, it was a strange thing to say to Van Houten's character given their strained history. As for Davos' confrontation with Melisandre in the Season 6 finale of the HBO series, he described the scene as interesting, as indicated in the same report.

In said episode, Davos called out Melisandre for her actions and demanded Harington's character to execute the Red Woman. Although Melisandre tried to reason with Snow and mentioned how she can help him in his upcoming battle with the Night King, the resurrected warrior instead opted to exile Van Houten's character.

In other news, Cunningham has hinted in a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the "Game of Thrones" season 6 finale will feature some major differences as compared to the HBO series' previous seasons. He explained how in past seasons, the final episode would lay down some of the foundation for the upcoming new season. The actor stated that episode 10 of Season 6 will show some surprises for the series' avid fans. "It's going to be a little bit different this time," he shared.
