Actor Ansel Elgort is in early negotiations to star in Warner Bros.' "Dungeons and Dragons," the fantasy film based on the enduring role-playing game that began in 1974.

Ansel Elgort is in early negotiations to star in the project - a primo role for any actor, Deadline first reported the negotiations.

The upcoming movie is to be directed by Rob Letterman. "Dungeons and Dragons" has been a top priority film for Warner Bros. which is looking for new franchises to innovate the studio. The new movie was announced last August, after the resolution of a legal dispute over the D&D film rights. The project represents the second big-screen crack at the material, following New Line's 2000 D&D film starring Justin Whalin and Jeremy Irons, a critical and box office flop, EW reported.

"The Conjuring 2" writer, David Leslie Johnson penned the fantasy story for the studio.  Film producer and the chief executive officer of the American toy and media company Hasbro, Brian Goldner and chief content officer, Stephen Davis will produce the movie. Along with them, Sweetpea Entertainment's Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman, and Roy Lee are producing.

Casting news for the new movie is in the media and it looks as if "The Fault In Our Star" Ansel Elgort is about to land a major role in "Dungeons & Dragons." He's said to be in early talks to star in the movie, although in what exact role it is unknown.

"Dungeons and Dragons," a fantasy adventure movie is about a warrior and his band of mystical creatures as they embark on a dangerous journey to find a mythical treasure. There is a speculation that Vin Diesel has also expressed interest in being part of the film as he has been a fan of and played the game for more than 20 years. If Diesel take up the movie, what role is of his interest or offered to him is unknown.

Elgort is an actor known for his performance as a gallant teenage cancer survivor in "The Fault in Our Stars" and a duplicitous scientist in the Divergent series.
