Microsoft Windows 10 Anniversary Update Rollout Begins Aug 2: Will Surface Pro 5, Surface Phone Release Date Follow Soon?

Initial rumors hinted that the American tech conglomerate is delaying Surface Pro 5 release from late 2016 to spring of 2017.

As promised, Microsoft will start rolling out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update summertime of 2016 and the fun will kick off August 2 all for free. But the bigger question playing in the minds of Window fans is: "Will the release dates for the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Phone follow in the next few months?"

Fans remain hopeful that the Surface Pro 5 will see the light of the day this 2016 as the 2-in-1 device was initially rumored to come out October. But according to Neurogadget, the Windows hybrid machine becoming a reality anytime this year seems a remote possibility for now.

For one, the Pro 5 is seen as a showcase device for the best that the updated Windows 10 will offer so the speculations are rife that Microsoft would want to wait out for better hardware before finalizing the laplet. While the best GPUs from NVIDIA and AMD are already available and larger-size and faster memory chips from the likes of Samsung are ready to come, there is one thing that is holding back Microsoft's plans for the next Surface Pro.

Reports said that the tech giant is eyeing the next-generation Intel Kaby Lake processor for the Pro 5 but the chip will only be ready for mass availability between late 2016 and early 2017. And it appears that Microsoft is willing to wait.

The same plan also syncs with the rumors that Microsoft would want the Surface Pro 5 to run on Windows 10 that is already updated to Redstone 2, and that will only happen next year. So the best for an SP5 touchdown is within 2017, exactly when only the Windows 10-maker knows.

The same goes for the rumored Surface Phone that is tipped to replace Microsoft's Lumia smartphone brand. The BitBag reported that Microsoft remains committed to Windows Mobile and is optimistic that the struggling mobile operating system will get a new lease in life with the highly anticipated Surface Phone.

And the rumored specs and features so far attached to the device promise of a compelling rival to Android and iOS flagships. The Surface Phone will reportedly boasts of a 5.7-inch screen with 2K display resolution, a Snapdragon 830 processing chip with up to 8GB of RAM, 128GB of basic memory and a rear 20-megapixel shooter that will make use of Carl Zeiss lens technology.

Design-wise, The BitBag gathered that the Surface Phone will be sexier and prettier than the last smartphone efforts from Microsoft, indicating that the upcoming device will be more appealing compared to the Lumia 950 series.

But when is the release date? It's likely that Microsoft will time the Surface Phone arrival with that of the Surface Pro 5. However, Neurogadget is claiming that at least one Windows 10 device will be provided by the tech giant before the end of the year. That would be the Surface Book 2 that could unpack as early as October 2016.
