It is not just single Chinese males who are buying sex dolls to become lifetime partners due to the country’s gender imbalance. Even married male migrant workers are purchasing the doll to ease their loneliness of being away from their loved ones while working in the city.
Despite being expensive, migrant workers are buying the sex dolls, reported The Mirror, with the 156 doll, priced at $3,000, being the most popular among those in their 30s and 40s. Married male urban professional migrants said rather than get the services of sex trade workers, they fulfill their sexual needs by having sex with the dolls which allow them to remain “faithful” to their wives and at the same time not risk acquiring sexually transmitted diseases.
The doll, named 156 after her height, is made of thermoplastic elastomer, a rubbery material that is softer than silicone and with adjustable hands and removable head and genitals.
Because of both single and married migrant male worker markets, the sex doll industry in China is booming and is estimated at 100 billion yuan, according to ChinaSexq.com, a business-to-business sex toy platform. Zhang Han, owner of Micdolls – maker of 156 – also expects good business because there are 16 extra males born out of every 100 childbirth for both genders, reported Japan Times.
Among singles, some have considered the sex dolls their lifetime partners, while among married men, others do not have a sexual outlook but instead view the sex doll as their daughters which they dress up, buy jewelry and bring around in their cars.
One divorced man even said the doll helped him recover from his separation and as a result, he would soon marry a real live but younger woman. But among those who use the doll for sex, some think she is “better than a real woman” because “it won’t resist, so people can do whatever they want with it.”
