The MacBook Pro 2016 may be removing the 3.5 mm jack as well, similar to the rumored plans for the iPhone 7.

The MacBook Pro 2016 was a no show at the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference last month, disappointing a lot of people. The latest word out is that the Apple notebook could still debut this year but with a minor iteration involving the 3.5 mm jack.

For those who have been closely following the story behind the 3.5 mm jack, the immediate thing that comes to mind is the iPhone 7. It is believed that Apple’s next flagship will come without the iconic audio port, something that is believed to make the next iPhone thinner.

With the 3.5 mm iteration, such is now being tied up to the MacBook Pro 2016 as well. Word of such comes from John Gruber who reasons that the removal of the traditional 3.5 mm jack on the iPhone 7 will also cover Apple’s next MacBook Pro.

Gruber further adds that Apple may be holding off the MacBook Pro 2016 debut until the iPhone 7 comes out possibly in September along with the Lightning-based headphones. While all that makes sense, no special headset is expected to be included if and when the MacBook Pro 2016 comes afterwards.

Instead, folks who end up getting the MacBook Pro 2016 may be forced to buy the special Apple Earpods which are estimated to retail for about $29. Either that or they can consider getting Lightning to 3.5 mm adapters such as this one spotted by Mac Otakara.

While no release date is in circulation, a recent move involving the removal of non-Retina MacBook Pro models both online and from retail stores could be an indication of a MacBook Pro 2016 coming. According to Apple Insider, some stores have started to pull out the older models with initial claims that they are underperforming.

Each time old model pullouts are done, it normally signifies the coming of new ones and this is the belief that many are hoping for. And on that note, the MacBook Pro 2016 is the first thing that comes to mind though nothing has been made official yet.

Aside from the rumored removal of the 3.5 mm jack for the MacBook Pro 2016, there are other specs to look forward to. That includes a thinner body, using Skylake processors, Touch ID and an OLED touch bar which will be situated where the old function keys were according to Mac World.

As far as the display screen is concerned, it is believed that the MacBook Pro 2016 will have a 2304x1440 resolution which is similar to the current 12-inch models. It remains to be seen if Apple will bump up the display resolution to 4K or 5K.
