Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) 2016 started on July 3, Sunday, and the around-the-clock, week-long event for the world's best speedrunners will last from the holiday weekend until July 9, Saturday. The yearly event has been held since 2010 and raises money for Doctors Without Borders. This year gaming fans can sit back on a sofa with their favorite snack foods and caffeinated drinks, to watch players speed-run through games including several Super Mario and Mega Man titles, The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
SGDQ is held every year along with Awesome Games Done Quick in January. They have become some of the world's most popular gaming events. The events give gamers a chance to show off their skills after spending innumerable hours mastering their favorite game.
This year's schedule includes various Mario games including Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Bros. 3, and multiple Mega Man titles. SGDQ 2016 will also include other classic games such as Super Metroid, and Tetris: The Grand Master Series, according to Kotaku.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is also scheduled for the big gaming event. It follows Nintendo recently sharing more content from its next Zelda game titled Breath of the Wild at a E3 demo.
The speedrunning group's latest charity event was Awesome Games Done Quick in January. It raised over $1.2 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, but the group hopes to smash that record at this year's summertime event
SGDQ is streamed live through Twitch. Games Done Quick's YouTube channel also includes archived streams from past years' events.
