‘Reply 1988’ sets record in China as it reaches 100 million views in one month

Popular South Korean television series "Reply 1988" has become a sensation in China. The family drama series has crossed the 100 million view mark within a month of its official online premiere in the communist nation.

According to Soompi, the online video platform Aichi's revelation states that the family drama series has been at the top of the viewership chart among the audience. It has been dominating the audience viewership and the view count for episodes 1-20 has surpassed the 100 million mark. What is more, it boasts of a rocking rating of 8.6 out of 10.

Notably, two episodes of "Reply 1988" get a release on Aichi every Friday and as of now, eight episodes are out for the viewers to watch online. The rest of the episodes are available only for VIP members, for a specific fee.

The series is a big hit in South Korea, but given its universal theme and excellent content, the show has become popular in outer countries as well. It touches upon themes like family, friendship and first love that cater to the emotions of the mass audience. And therefore, it is no wonder that the show has become a rage in China.

The majority of the show's viewers comprises ladies and girls in their late teens and early twenties. This is because "Reply 1988" has a strong presence of young Korean stars and their stories resonate with the audience without any hitch.

It is worth mentioning here that "Reply 1988" is a drama set in the year 1988 and revolves around the tales of five families living in the same neighborhood in Northern Seoul. It was released in November 2015 on tvN network and received widespread acclaim from critics and viewers.

The series is remarkable for its honest portrayal of people's struggles as they go about dealing with family, friends, love and society at large. It also enjoys the distinction of being the highest rated drama in the history of Korean cable television.
