Lesley Gore, the singer who popularized hits like "It's My Party," and "You Don't Own Me," recently passed away after losing a battle against lung cancer. Gore was 68 years old at the time of her death.

Gore rose to prominence after the legendary producer Quincy Jones discovered and signed her while still in junior high school. Gore's first single was "It's My Party" and was produced by Mercury Records.

The single eventually became the number one song of the 1963 Billboard Hot 100, the same song that paved Jones' reputation as a producer. The same song was covered by Amy Winehouse for a tribute album for Quincy Jones, according to Rolling Stones.

Gore and Jones would later work hand-in-hand for two more platinum singles in 1963. The songs were "She's a Fool" and "You Don't Own Me," the song which would soon become one of the most prominent feminist anthem.

Gore and Jones would continue their collaboration until 1966 and produced smash hits like "Maybe I Know" and "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows."

After collaborating with Jones, Gore worked with songwriter legend Bob Crewe and together produced the track "California Nights."

After early exposure to the showbiz spotlight, Gore focused on her studies and later graduated with a degree in Literature in 1968. Gore stayed out of the spotlight for most of the 70's and only came back to the limelight in the 80's with the hit "Out Here On My Own," which was co-written along with her brother Michael and was part of the "Fame" soundtrack, according to Variety.

On a 2005 interview, Gore stated that she is a lesbian and has an ongoing relationship with Lois Sasson. The two has had a relationship for 33 years on the time of Gore's death.

Gore died at the NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City.

Her funeral service will be held on Feb. 19 at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home.
