Speculations are rife that author George R. R. Martin may reveal a new chapter on Cersei at the upcoming World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon), which is being held from Aug. 17-21. It is also rumored that this chapter may be present in the second half of the book "Winds of Winter."
Martin confirmed on his blog Not a Journal that he will be taking part at the Worldcon and will also be doing a reading session. He had already participated at the Balticon in May where he dropped hints that he is working on a chapter on Cersei.
Hence, it is expected that Martin may be releasing the first POV chapter on Cersei at the Worldcon. In this chapter, Cersei may travel to Highgarden after escaping from King's Landing. This chapter will prove that not only Cersei is cold-blooded when it comes to protecting herself but she is also a good strategist.
At the Balticon convention, Martin revealed that originally he had planned a trilogy for his series, according to Winter is Coming. However, when he started writing then he hit the landmark of almost 1000 pages but the series was no where near the end. Then he revised the target and expanded the series.
"Winds of Winter" is expected to largely focus on Cersei because she is at loggerheads with almost everybody ranging from the Tyrells to the Starks. With Jon Snow's resurrection she will face a new threat from the North and so she will need allies in order to defeat the new King of the North. She may take the help of the Freys to consolidate her position at the Iron Throne.
In other news, there are also rumors that Martin may expand the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series after the last book "A Dream of Spring" is released. "A Dream of Spring" is the next book after "Winds of Winter." It is yet to be written and is expected to be released after three years at least.
