Jeffrey Dean Morgan cast as villain Negan

"The Walking Dead" season 7 recently released its first official photo from the upcoming episodes.

In the snap, Jeffrey Dean Morgan could be seen giving life to his villainous character Negan.

The character is also holding a bat with a smug look on his face. By the looks of it, he targeted another character.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Greg Nicotero confirmed that Negan hit someone using his bat.

However, the director of the season 6 finale and season 7 premiere didn't reveal whether or not Negan's target in the finale and the photo is one and the same person.

"Yes, who was at the receiving end of Negan's bat will be revealed in the first episode," he said.

Meanwhile, Nicotero also confirmed that the villainous character will have several more scenes in season 7 compared to season 6.

This also means that the character will have the opportunity to engage in more ranting.

"Negan is that kind of guy. He's the kind of guy who imagines himself on stage at a high school production and he loves every second of it. So, I don't really see a lot of quiet contemplative moments with Negan. I feel like with Negan it's really going to be about him gesticulating and him sort of relishing in the sound of his own voice while he commands the stage in front of whoever's alive," he explained.

In other news, there are rumors on who Negan killed in the finale episode for season 6.

According to the show's official spoiler site The Spoiling Dead fans, Steven Yeun's Glenn is the only character that would make sense to be killed off.

Glenn already had a similar fate before the season 6 premiere and fans already thought that he was killed.

However, an online uproar took place that made the series producers and creators change their mind about his future in the hit AMC series.

This time around, Glenn may really be Negan's victim and it's really possible that he was the one that he targeted last season.

"The Walking Dead" season 7 will premiere on AMC on Oct. 9.
