'Deadpool' is a 2016 American superhero comedy film directed by Tim Miller, produced by Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner, and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Producer Simon Kinberg, 42, recently revealed that the Twentieth Century Fox hopes to start filming Ryan Reynolds' much-awaited sequel film "Deadpool 2" in early 2017. On Feb. 12, Fox confirmed that a sequel has been greenlit with writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, as well as director Tim Miller back on board.

In a recent interview with Collider, Kinberg reassured fans that the sequel film is moving at a good pace. The British-born screenwriter-producer stated that things are progressing for the upcoming film, adding that Wernick and Reese are already developing the script.

"The guys, [original screenwriters Paul] Wernick and Rhett [Reese], are working on the script, and we hope to have the script very soon," Kinberg told the news outlet during an interview before the Saturn Awards. "We hope to shoot the movie some time at the beginning of next year."

The plot details of the sequel film are still under wraps, though it has been confirmed that Marvel character Cable will play a pivotal role in "Deadpool 2." The announcement was revealed in the first film's post-credits sequence.

Now, actors Dolph Lundgren, 58 and Stephen Lang, 64, are vying for the role of Cable. In February, Lang, who played the menacing villain named Col. Miles Quaritch in James Cameron's "Avatar" (2009), retweeted side-by-side comparison of himself and the comic book character.

Director Miller and writer Reese have also spoken about the said character. In an interview with IGN on April 27, the former said he likes Cable's history since he is exceptionally intertwined with the universe of X-Men, adding that the character will apparently make a great foil for Wade Wilson (Reynolds).

"I think Deadpool needs a straight man," Miller added. "Cable is the ultimate, archetypal, silent, strong and cynical warrior, which Deadpool is not."

"Deadpool 2" currently does not have an official release date, though speculations are rife that the sequel film is slated to be released sooner or later in 2018. Check out Kinberg's full interview below:
