Marco Polo' New York Series Premiere

The second season of American drama series “Marco Polo” premiered over Netflix on July 1. Although it is based on 13th century China, observers note the number of sex scenes on the show.

Daily Star reported that "Marco Polo" features naked women, graphic sex scenes and orgies, making it a show not suited for kids. But it is not just skin that is shown. It also has backstabbing, political drama and unexpected twists which would keep the viewers hooked on watching the series.

However, despite the erotic scenes, the show promises quality as the production team behind “Marco Polo” are Academy Award nominees and list “Game of Thrones” and “Homeland” among their credentials.

Season 2 promises to be more exciting since the star of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” Michelle Yeoh joins the show as a mysterious character from the past of Hundred Eyes. Lorenzo Richelmy plays the title role of Marco Polo, while Benedict Wong is Kublai Khan. To portray Empress Chabi is Joan Chen and Kokachin is Zhu.

People reported that Michelle’s role involves a lot of stunts, directed by stunt experts from China, Mongolia, Germany and Kazakhstan. The 53-year-old Chinese actress shared that a lot of the stunts she gets to do on the series she could only do in the movies.

She said, “In real life I’m not going to walk around trying to beat up five to seven guys. It was so cool because my godchildren wrote to me and said, ‘You beat up Marco Polo! That’s so cool’”

Kicking butt and doing all the stunts are the result of Michelle’s consistent workout routine such as martial arts, kung fu and tai chi which she compares to personal hygiene. “You don’t wake up and not do it. I go through the whole process. It’s part of my well being, exercising and not being in shape, so when I jump on to something like Marco Polo to where it’s very physical, it’s not so difficult because I’ve been riding the bicycle.”
