Nintendo's NES Classic Edition

Nintendo has just released a new online trailer for its Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Classic Edition. The $60 mini-NES console is featured in the 80s-style ad that shows sharper graphics than Nintendo's Virtual Console NES re-releases on Wii, Wii U, and 3DS gaming systems thanks to better HD emulation.

The NES Classic games in the online ad reveal much brighter and clearer images than the Virtual Console version. Nintendo's new trailer for the portable NES shows images with solid colors and crisp pixels, according to Ars Technica.

Gamers who have played classic NES games via Virtual Console might be flabbergasted by how clear the Nintendo console's graphics are. That is especially true if they viewed the low-definition graphics of Wii.

It could be argued that the NES Classic titles are not truly retro games because they do not represent the old-school CRT screens. However, Nintendo fans could also claim that past NES emulation was blurry instead of truly retro.

NES Classic Edition provides big improvements from the original NES console and past official emulation. It still might include an image filtering option that keeps the muddy images.

Nintendo showed off the mini NES console at Comic-Con in San Diego this week.

The miniature console is about as wide as an NES controller. Meanwhile, the NES Classic Edition controller looks like the rectangular game pad that was introduced in 1985.

Nintendo is set to release NES Classic Edition on Nov. 11, 2016. It includes 30 built-in classic NES games. The 8-bit titles include Castlevania, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, Mega Man 2, Metroid, Pac-Man, Punch Out!, Super Mario Bros., and The Legend of Zelda.

In related news, Pokemon Go that features Nintendo characters has already been on the iTunes Free/Top Grossing charts. Apple confirmed on July 22, Friday the free GPS/augmented reality (AR) game had more downloads during its first week than any other mobile app, according to GameSpot.

Apple has not released any exact figures or reported which app held the download record before the Pokemon smartphone game broke it.

Financial firm Needham recently reported that the Pokemon game could add $3 billion to Apple's sales figures during the next 1-2 years. Two-thirds of Pokemon Go downloads are on iOS devices including iPhones and iPads.
