NBC's ‘The Slap’ Draws Attention On Child Discipline Amid Abuse Controversy

Recent articles suggested that Pope Francis thinks it's ok to spank a child as long as their dignity is maintained. According to TIME, the Pope's approval drew ire on some. Now, it is NBC's "The Slap" who is facing such controversy over an alleged debate on child discipline amidst abuse controversy.

According to the Review Journal, NBC is treading a very sensitive topic by airing mini series that involves the controversial issue of child abuse. Despite several mixed reviews, some critics showed their appreciation on how the show delivered the very sensitive topic.

The show's setting is at a barbecue where mixed friends and families gather together for that special and relaxing occasion. In a turn of events, one child's mischievous antics turn into a quite violent reaction from an adult who was at the receiving end of his actions. Hank Stuever, from the Washington Post said that what viewers quickly see these days is a story applicable to all societies. 

According to the review journal, the fate of the show may depend on how the viewers of American television will react (whether it would be in a negative or in a positive way), after all, the topic touches a very sensitive situation that has been debated for a long period of time.

In light of the pending opening of the show, Brandy Zadrozny said that based on research, hitting a child will not only make them sadder, angrier, more violent or dumber, they are more likely to also suffer from mental illness.
