Greg Monroe is still in the middle of the NBA trade rumors as the Milwaukee Bucks are still looking for a trade partner.
It's amazing how Monroe was one of the coveted free agents just last offseason with the New York Knicks selling the Big City, Madison Square Garden pitch on him, but Monroe chose to join the Milwaukee Bucks, at that time, a promising team with young talent.
The Bucks got derailed and partly, Monroe was to blame. He just wasn't a good fit and it became a lesson for the other teams that fit matters, not just talent in free agency.
There have been many reports that may or may not hold water in the Greg Monroe situation. One of the tougher sells was that the New York Knicks taking interest in Monroe, since they did failed to sign him last season. The Knicks are a very different team now, and it would be hard to picture his fit again with the current roster.
A pair of more authoritative sources gave their take on Greg Monroe. ESPN's Zach Lowe, who is "America's top sportswriter" shared his take on the situation on his ESPN podcast. (h/t Fansided)
"I think [the Bucks] got closer than maybe has been reported with New Orleans during either the draft or free agency."
Another credible reporter from ESPN, Marc Stein, gave a hint on the possibility.
"New Orleans is the team that's been linked with him constantly. Monroe's a New Orleans native, I think that's where he wants to end up. Nothing has materialized, and I think, look, his looming free agency is a part of it. Obviously, concerns about his defense, that's a part of it as well."
Playing alongside Anthony Davis may cover some of Monroe's defensive shortcomings but the Pelicans are also concerned about trying to relieve themselves of Omer Asik's contract.
The Bucks signed Miles Plumlee in a move that seems to be a preparation for Monroe's departure (less minutes at the center position). There is a possibility that the Bucks may have to keep him. The Pelicans could take him, unless the Bucks demand much for him.
