Former Oklahoma City Thunder associate head coach Monty Williams.

Monty Williams has been offered a job as part of Gregg Popovich's staff in San Antonio and the former Oklahoma City Thunder associate head coach is set to accept the role, according to latest reports.

Williams, who is currently serving as an assistant with the USA Men's basketball team that will compete in the coming Rio Summer Olympics, was notified that "he has a job waiting for him with the San Antonio Spurs next season" and that he is "expected to accept" it, ESPN's Marc Stein reported.

Stein said that the 44-year-old former NBA small forward, who resigned from his previous coaching stint with the Thunder following the ill-fated death of his wife Ingrid in a car accident last February, was "urged by Spurs coach Gregg Popovich" to be part of his bench crew in "as much of a role with the organization as he feels comfortable for the 2016-17 campaign".

The details and terms of the said job has not yet been released by the club, but the report disclosed that it could either be as an assistant coach, player-development officer, a front-office executive, or any combination of the three "depending on what he prefers".

However, an ESPN source recently revealed that Williams is "absolutely" planning to become an NBA head coach once again after he finished his reported offer from San Antonio. He was previously the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans for five years before moving to Oklahoma City as an associate.

The former New York Knicks wingman is being supported by his in-laws, who are residing in San Antonio, in taking care of him and his wife's five children at the moment, as per CBS Sports.

"I've only had peace about a few things," said Williams in an interview. "I knew I had to take care of my kids and stop coaching, but also knew that I wanted to be a part of USA Basketball, because it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing."

"I can't wait to get back and start coaching. I wouldn't even think that if I didn't know, one, my wife would want me to. My kids talk about it all the time. And there have been some things that have happened in my life lately that have allowed me to get that back."
