For viewers at home, the Oscars 2015 is a chance to root for our favorite award nominees, and try to get through the super dull segments. Neil Patrick Harris will attempt to make the show fun, yet remain kind.

Harris' hosting job will start after the red carpet coverage, and the pre-red carpet coverage. The latter will be three hours before the Oscars starts!

The host of last year's Oscars was Ellen Degeneres. She took a selfie that included her and a ton of celebrities, including Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Julia Roberts.

On paper Harris has the ability to be an outstanding host of the Oscars. He has already hosted the Tony awards four times, and the Emmy awards twice.

In the past, Harris has been skilled at sharing the awards' nominees and winners, and providing effective comic relief when it's needed.

However, there is no guarantee that Harris's hosting of the Oscars will be top-notch. In fact, an effective Oscars hosting can be a tough mission.

Harris seems to understand how difficult his task will be. He's jested, "I need a scandal," according to USA Today. He also said that joking about nominees is "not my style."

One example of a hosting waterloo was 2011, thanks to James Franco and Anne Hathaway. Many viewers wondered if the two should have gotten an award-for the all-time worst Oscars' hosting.

The host must also give winners enough time to thank the people who helped them. On the other hand, it's not too fun to hear winners thank virtually every person they've ever known.

Yet another challenging issue that the Oscars host has to deal with is the technical categories in the middle of the awards show, according to Oregon Live. The Average Joe at home view doesn't know much about them, so they can be as fun as watching grass grow.
