Ex-James Bond Pierce Brosnan: Idris Elba Is Good 007 Daniel Craig Successor; Colin Salmon Too

Pierce Brosnan played James Bond in four films.

Pierce Brosnan, 61, has expressed his support for "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" star Idris Elba, 42, as the next James Bond, Irish Central has learned.

For Brosnan, Elba would actually make a good Bond. He added, "Colin Salmon also. May the best man get the job."

Having played the fictional British spy in four films from 1994 to 2002 himself, Brosnan said he is a big fan of current 007 Daniel Craig's interpretation of the character.

While Brosnan supports either Elba or Salmon as the next James Bond, he is also okay with the idea of keeping Craig as the next star in the upcoming 007 film "Spectre."

"Daniel has made his mark gloriously," Brosnan told Radio Times magazine. "May Daniel bring home the bacon for as long as he wants."

Repeatedly linked to the James Bond role, Elba has also expressed his interest in accepting the role if it was offered to him.

When asked if he was interested in portraying James Bond during a Q&A on website Reddit, Elba replied, "Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely."

Currently, Elba is filming "The Jungle Book" and "Finding Dory." He is also set to appear in 2015 films "The Gunman," "Beast Of No Nation," "A Hundred Streets" and "Alive Alone" as well as in the 2016 film "Bastille Day."

On the small screen, Elba plays DCI John Luther in the TV series "Luther." In 2013, he played Nelson Mandela in "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" and Heimdall in "Thor: The Dark World." In 2014, he starred in "No Good Deed" and "Second Coming."
