‘Suicide Squad’ gets negative feedback from critics; Fans disagree like never before

Jared Leto plays Joker in "Suicide Squad" which will be in theaters from Aug. 5.

Looks like DC's much-anticipated baddies buildup "Suicide Squad" is a hit with fans despite the fact that it is yet to be released. While many critics have blasted the movie, DC fans are not willing to accept their reviews.

Not only this, they have also signed a petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes for giving the movie poor ratings, The Independent reported. This was after the website gave the film a dismal favorability rating of 35 percent, a starkly low rating for a movie that boasts of an impressive star cast and has been marketed with great fanfare before the release.

Notably, it is not just Rotten Tomatoes that have expressed disappointment with "Suicide Squad." In fact, there are many. Indie Wire has called the film "mundane, milquetoast, and often mind-bogglingly stupid." The Metacritic has bestowed it with a score of 42 out of 100, based on 43 critics.

Entertainment Weekly's Chris Nashawaty also expressed his dismay with a B rating and said that the movie is a small step forward for DC when it could have been a giant leap. Well, since most of the critics failed to see merit in this much-hyped DC offering, it cannot be ruled out that something is missing.

DC needs to introspect, it seems. However, it is also true that Marvel has been offering the audiences superhero diet with plenty and it might be a reason that DC offerings are not doing well. Marvel has come up with three Iron Man movies, three Captain America movies, two Thor movies (the third is on the way), and two Avengers as well. So, DC's fading charm may not be a surprise for anyone.

As for fans, DC loyalists are huge in number and they have already proved their love for DC with "Batman v Superman". This recent March release was also panned by critics, but made an impressive $800-million-plus worldwide, at the box office. So, it would not be really a surprise if "Suicide Squad" sets the cash registers ringing, when it hits theatres on August 5, Friday.

After all, it is one of the most awaited releases of the year and given the hype it has generated, fans are expected to flock to theatres in droves to watch the good baddies take on the new villains.
