Renee Zellweger slams plastic surgery rumors in scathing essay

Actress Renee Zellweger arrives at ELLE's 21st Annual Women In Hollywood at Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills on October 20, 2014 in Beverly Hills, California.

Renee Zellweger has had enough of the speculation surrounding her changing appearance and has fired back at tabloids in an essay for The Huffington Post.

The "Bridget Jones's Baby" actress became the hot topic of conversation with rumors that she had undergone plastic surgery after she made a red carpet appearance in October 2014 looking completely different from her usual self.

Recently, the 47-year-old star was again targeted by the media, claiming that she got cosmetic eye surgery but Zellweger has now penned a scathing essay to shut down the reports and deny that she went under the knife.

In the essay, titled "We Can Do Better," Zellweger criticized the manner in which a woman's worth is and always has been measured by her looks and appearance and in spite of the progress we have made in acknowledging women's accomplishments, the hypocrisy that belittles their contribution is an evil that still prevails in our society.

"Not that it's anyone's business, but I did not make a decision to alter my face and have surgery on my eyes," the actress wrote, before adding that she was unfazed by all the speculation about her appearance and considered the reports as "just one more story in the massive smut pile generated everyday by the tabloid press."

However, she expressed her concern over these "humiliating tabloid stories, mean-spirited judgments, and false information" taking away the focus from more pressing matters and events that are currently going on around the world.

Zellweger concluded her powerful essay with a message, urging us all to have conversations about the real challenges in society and how we can overcome them.

Last month, actress Rose McGowan came out in support for Zellweger via an op-ed published by The Hollywood Reporter after a Variety article said that the actress' new appearance would negatively affect her upcoming threequel in the "Bridget Jones" franchise.
