Jensen Ackles shared that although he will not be directing any episodes of "Supernatural" Season 12, he does hope that the TV series can revisit previous storylines.

"Supernatural" Season 12 is the big family reunion fans have been aching to have since the show first started. With Mary Winchester back in the land of the living and Castiel gunning to "get his mojo back," the new season is definitely going to start with a bang.

We've listed two of the big things fans can expect in the upcoming "Supernatural" season 12.

Castiel hinges on his full power

Misha Collins' character is definitely on the hunt for Lucifer while taking part in the Winchester family reunion. For the most part, Castiel will start "Supernatural" Season 12 swinging.

"He's a man on a mission trying to hunt down Lucifer," Collins told Hypable at the San Diego Comic Con 2016.

Going after Lucifer isn't the only thing on Castiel's agenda in "Supernatural" Season 12. The character is definitely getting his full power back.

"For a long time on the show, Cas has been in one way or another cobbled, because the writers didn't want him to be too powerful, they didn't want him to be able to solve Sam and Dean's problems with the snap of his fingers all the time," Collins said about Castiel's situation in the past seasons. But change is definitely coming for Castiel. With his powers fully charged, there might even be some time traveling coming up.

Back to basics

In the "Supernatural" Season 11, the show explored a very big and dark mythological arc. This season, however, grand storylines are taking a setback to make way for a more family-based storyline.

Sam and Dean's mother is resurrected from the dead after 33 years. The brothers grew up without their mother, with Sam's memory of her is non-existent while Dean's is rather sparse. How they respond to having her back in their lives will be the central element of "Supernatural" Season 12.

"It presents a dynamic we haven't had," Ackles told Variety. "When mom [died], Sam was a baby and Dean was a child... The children that she knew are now men, the relationship is kind of nonexistent, so it's going to be an interesting situation of them trying to bridge the gap that occurred over the last thirty-some years."

"Supernatural" Season 12 will tap on more hunting stories, since Mary is also quite the hunter herself. Unlike John, Mary might be more apprehensive about Sam and Dean taking on the same hunting path as their parents.

"Supernatural" Season 12 premieres Oct. 13 on The CW.
