‘Running Man’ cast member Song Ji Hyo to make drama comeback in new JTBC series

Song Ji Hyo is set to return to the South Korean small screens with a new drama project. The "Running Man" cast member has been cast to play the lead character in an upcoming JTBC drama.

The TV personality's latest acting role was confirmed by JTBC, according to a report posted on Soompi. The Korean actress will portray the main female character in the drama titled "This Week, My Wife is Having an Affair." She is set to play the role of a producer's wife who is thinking to start an affair.

The "Running Man" ace will star alongside "Miss Korea" actor Lee Sun Gyun who will play the producer Do Hyun Woo. The said character has been described as a hard-working man who has been a part of the entertainment industry for a decade. Other Korean celebrities who have been confirmed to join the JTBC drama includes "Misaeng" star Kim Hee Won, Ye Ji Won, "The Master of Revenge" actor Lee Sang Yeob and the Kpop singer BoA.

JTBC's upcoming drama is said to be based on the Japanese series titled "Konshu Tsuma ga Uwaki Shimasu" that aired in 2007. On the other hand, character synopses posted on Dramabeans has indicated that Sun Gyun's character Hyun Woo will have a challenging time trying to deal with his wife's adulterous intentions. The situation will lead the producer to share his frustrations online through an online forum comprised of cheated spouses.

Despite the drama's plot that appears to revolve around marriage problems and troubled relationships, the upcoming JTBC series will also contain some comedic situations. It has even been described as a "comic healing" series, as indicated in the same report.

Meanwhile, the JTBC drama will mark Ji Hyo's return to the small screens. The last time that viewers saw the actress was in the romantic comedy drama "Ex-Girlfriend Club" that aired on tvN in 2015. In the said drama, she played the producer Kim Soo Jin who has been assigned to launch a movie adaptation of a webtoon series.

"This Week, My Wife is Having an Affair" will replace the drama "Age of Youth." It is expected to air in October on JTBC.
