A few days after popular Meta search engine Torrentz.eu was officially shut down, a new clone in the form of Torrentz2.eu has surfaced online to continue the legacy of the original domain. The shutdown of Torrentz.eu came just a month after the alleged owner of KickassTorrents (KAT), Artem Vaulin, was arrested in Poland on the United States government order.

Torrentz.eu owners quietly shut down the shop last week with a message to their users, "Torrentz will always love you. Farewell." However, owner did not give the reason behind his move to shut down the website.

As opposed to TPB and the recently brought down KickassTorrents that operated as hosts for shared files, Torrentz.eu was only a search engine. Users could use the website to discover sites that had a specific file available from a list of 28 potential sources.

The absence of hosting activities made Torrentz.eu seem impervious to attack as compared to other sites. However, the site still had a takedown policy put in place for any searched copyright infringement files.

It is believed that Torrentz.eu owners decided close down the shop preemptively based either on actual knowledge of pending action, or understandable fear that being among the largest hosting websites; it would naturally become the focus of any shutdown moves. The site disabled its search operation on Aug. 6, according to Variety.

A day after KAT was brought down; clone websites came online, suggesting that authorities might have a hard time to eliminate piracy. One of the clones dubbed KAT.am claimed that its website is hosted on several cloud servers to prevent blockade, and the hosting information is concealed behind Cloudflare, according to Times of India.

Before the US took down KickassTorrents, the site was ranked the 69th most frequently visited site globally. While the people behind the clone claimed to be full proof, copyright authorities successfully shut down KAT.am just one week after its launch.

Currently, the torrenting community is encouraged to use the remaining two largest sites as best alternatives to KickassTorrents - The Pirate Bay (TPB) and Extra Torrent. Here is footage for more information on Torrentz.eu:
