The Republicans must be rejoicing now because they have a new weapon against the Democrats, besides Hillary Clinton’s email scandal. When presidential daughter Malia Obama skipped the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in July to attend Lollapalooza, the 18-year-old was criticized for picking to attend the music festival over the DNC.
It did not help that she was caught by the cameras twerking and wearing a tiny blouse which revealed her abs – things which a normal teen does without being subject to social media criticism. However, being a White House occupant does have some disadvantages, especially when a website published an article and video of Malia smoking.
But it was no ordinary cigarette she puffed, according to the website Radar Online which claimed she was smoking marijuana. Complex quoted Jerrdin Selwin, who runs the Radar Online website, as saying he saw her smoking cannabis during the Bryson Tiller set.
"You could smell the marijuana smoke. I saw some young guy hand her a cigarette and she took at least one hit on it. She had it in her hand for about one minute, then gave it back to him.” But beyond publishing the video, Selwin did not offer evidence it was pot.
At the very least, she may got some words from her father, U.S. President Barack Obama, but it would not likely be a stern “sermon” because the president had publicly admitted smoking weed during his younger days.
“I've told my daughters I think it's a bad idea, a waste of time, not very healthy... As has been well documented, I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life,” Complex quoted Obama.
The law is also on Malia’s side because Illinois, where Lollapalooza is held, recently decriminalised cannabis. State Governor Bruce Rauner signed a bill into law in August which removed criminal penalties for people who possess 10 grams or less of marijuana.
Many states and countries nations too are legalizing medicinal cannabis.
