Andy Murray

Andy Murray will hope for a second-consecutive Gold Medal, while Juan Martin del Potro attempts to continue his remarkable run when the two face each other in the final round of the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.

Murray advanced into the final round of the men's singles tennis competition in Rio de Janeiro after defeating Japan's Kei Nishikori in 6-1 6-4. The world No. 2, who went through tight games prior to his semifinal match, returned to form just in time to secure himself an Olympic Medal at the quadrennial event.

"That would obviously be nice" Murray said about winning his second Olympic Gold Medal, reports the Irish Times.

"The goal is to win a gold medal. I'm not really thinking about any of the stuff that goes with that just now. It is obviously a difficult thing to do; hence nobody has ever done it before."

While Murray is touted as the huge favorite to win the event, facing Del Potro would surely be a challenging task, with the Argentine defeating the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal to get a chance for an Olympic glory.

Using the same vicious forehand that gotten him past Djokovic and other top players in the early rounds of the tournament, Del Potro ended Nadal's Olympic dream for an unprecedented second Gold with a 5-7 6-4 7-6 victory. Del Potro, who won a bronze four years ago, is also aware of facing another giant in Murray, but hopes to replicate any of his impressive displays at the Olympic Games.

"He's [Murray] the favourite for sure," Del Potro said, reports The Guardian. "Hopefully I can run like I did today."

Murray leads del Potro by 5-2 in their FedEx ATP Head2Head career singles matchup, but the 27-year-old Argentine won their most recent meeting back in 2013 at the ATP World Tour Masters Indian Wells.
