The DC Extended Universe is officially in full swing. Having recently released the anti-hero flick "Suicide Squad," "Justice League" and the standalone shows of its members are on its way. With the release of the official "Justice League" trailer at San Diego Comic Con, expectations are running high for Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and there are a lot of speculations as to which villain he will be facing in his movie.

"Aquaman" won't be out until 2018, but there's already a lot of talk about the movie, which stars "Game of Thrones" hunk Jason Momoa. The Wrap exclusively reported that the big bad in the 2018 "Aquaman" movie is none other than Black Manta.

The villain is very popular in DC lore and is known as one of Aquaman's deadliest enemies. He spent time in Belle Reve prison, and in the comic books was recruited by Amanda Waller to join Suicide Squad. Although he didn't make an appearance, it was widely rumored that Common would portray Black Manta in "Suicide Squad."

Black Manta debuted in the comic books in September 1967. He was the subject of experiments in Gotham's Arkham Asylum, which eventually made him violent. Aquaman killed Black Manta's father, resulting in the latter being driven by revenge against the aquatic hero.

Momoa will first suit up as Aquaman in "Justice League," which will be released in 2017. The movie will also star Amber Heard as Atlanteans Mera and Willem Dafoe as Vulko.

Meanwhile, "Aquaman" director James Wan revealed that one of the biggest challenges of having an underwater-based superhero is having him speak underwater.

"I love the idea of underwater speaking but with a real sort of sonic, aquatic quality to it," Wan revealed to IGN. "Justice League" will be a sort of learning curve for Wan as he prepares for the standalone "Aquaman" film.

He added that "Justice League" "will be an experiment for me to see what works and what may not work as well."

In the meantime, Zack Snyder amped up the anticipation for "Aquaman" and "Justice League" by releasing the first photo of Momoa clad in his Aquaman armor.
