No More Nexus 2016 Release as Google to Soon Launch Flagship Smartphones with Customized Android 7.0 Nougat?

HTC is building the Nexus 2016 flagship phones for Google, a new report said, pointing to a new set of documents that supposedly confirmed the upcoming release date of two Stock Android smartphones. However, Google and HTC have yet to comment on the leaked FCC papers.

Blog site TechTastic reported that two separate product manuals have been submitted by HTC to FCC that clearly were about two mobile devices involving Google. "HTC Corporation, hereby declare that the user guide submitted for review is draft and the final version will be made publicly available on Google's website at the time the product is commercially released," the document was quoted by the report as saying.

While the documents withheld specifics such as mentioning the rumored Nexus Sailfish and Marlin they pointed to Google's Nexus page (http://support.google.com/nexus) where the papers will be soon accessed by the public. The documentation appears pointing to fresh Nexus devices that likely will get unboxed in the next few weeks.

Rumors say Google and HTC will collaborate on a project that will produce the Nexus Sailfish and Marlin - the former a 5-inch device and the latter a 5.5-inch phablet. In a new image leak, Android Police showcased the devices as mostly premium and made of glass and metal. The same report indicated that the two Nexus phones will share the same industrial design and will unpack as near identical twins save for the screen sizes.

The new Nexus flagships will also have the same internals, which according to reports will be bannered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 and supported by 4GB of RAM. The camera setting is thought to be 12MP on rear and 8MP on front.

It has been largely confirmed that Android 7.0 Nougat will be the new Google sweet behind the Nexus 2016 and speculations are rife that rollout of the new Google mobile OS will happen within August, somehow hinting that the next Nexus deployment is near.

Nougat running on the next Nexus will also bring exclusive features to the two devices such as the Nexus Launcher and animated Home button. The latter is seen to highlight the fresh features cooked up by Google with the next Android Search and Now on Tap functions.

And Android 7.0 Nougat coming out this August is widely seen as the same debut time for the Nexus 2016 but Google was reported to have already set the actual release date to happen a little later, likely in early October.
