The webtoon drama "W" continues to draw in viewers, topping viewership records in South Korea. The unique storyline, which goes beyond the traditional romance that is often the focus of Hallyu, is one of the reasons behind the popularity of the show.

A Soompi writer said that the webtoon has become the latest obsession of Korean TV show lovers because of the program’s unique concept, suspenseful storyline and endless eye candy through main actors Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo.

Among the most interesting scenes of “W” that Soompi cited is Episode 7 when the hand of Yoon So Hui disappeared because it was time for the character to leave the story. Since then, Oh Yeon Joo has replaced Yoon So Hui as the main female character of the webtoon.

Seeing this scene, the writer asked if the “strange occurrence” is an indicator of the show’s author’s apparent dilemma if Yoon So Hui would be kept in the series.

So far, the only webtoon character aware of his true identity is Kang Chul. However, some of his friends would also soon learn about their real identity. If that time comes, Soompi is asking if these other characters would keep on playing their designated roles or change the webtoon storyline.

Although “W” is a webtoon, the romantic element is not missing. So, like other fans of Korean TV shows, Soompi is hopeful the main characters of Oh Yeon Joo and Kang Chul would have a happy ending, similar to how “My Love from the Stars” ended with main characters Do Min Joon and Cheon Song Yi still becoming a couple forever.

MBC executives agreed to make the script, written by screenwriter Song Jae Jung, a TV series because of its unique plot, brought to life by director Jung Dae Yoon, reported Bitbag. Park Sung Soo, drama department head of MBC, pointed out “W” has gained a large following among Korean viewers because of its themes which the current generation would enjoy and the script is finished.
