Ligue 1 2016-2017: Guingamp vs Marseille, Preview, Prediction & Predicted Lineup

Last season's lowly finishers En Avant de Guingamp (0-0-1, 1 point) and Olympique de Marseille (0-0-1, 1 point) are scheduled to meet in a 2016-2017 Ligue 1 season Week 2 game at the Stade Municipal de Roudourou this Sunday, August 21.

The two teams began their French top flight seasons decently last week as both pulled off drawn matches against their respective season-opening opponents.

Guingamp, last term's 16th place finishers, was able to hold powerhouse team AS Monaco to a 2-2 draw on the road at the Stade Louis II last Friday, ESPN reported.

Head coach Antoine Kombouaré, who just took over the job from manager Jocelyn Gourvennec in May, is said to be satisfied with his squad's performance against a much tougher team on paper.

His boys actually scored the first two goals in the contest, courtesy of Senegalese midfielder Mustapha Diallo and striker Sloan Privat at the 29th and 37th minutes, to convey to the hosts that they are in for a fight.

Monaco was able to bounce back in the second half, though, as Brazilian defender Fabinho and Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva each scored a goal of their own at the 71st and 84th minutes respectively to level the count.

Both teams were unable to add to their tallies until the final whistle as the visitors share a point with their more illustrious hosts right on opening day.

Meanwhile, Marseille, who concluded last term at the 13th spot in the league table, settled to a goalless tie with the almost-relegated squad of Toulouse FC at their own home ground of Stade Vélodrome last Sunday, as per SkySports.

It was a disappointing start for caretaker manager Franck Passi, whose team is evidently in need of more attacking options to compete effectively this term. Les Phocéens earned a point in the overall standings for the draw, though, despite not scoring a goal in their season-opener.

Passi and his wards are favored to win a tough one against Kombouaré's side in this matchup.

The predicted result is a close 2-1 win for Marseille.
