Weeks after winning the Grand Slam, Serena Williams has moved past the legendary players Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. Aside from her recent 19th overall Grand Slam title, she is inching closer to the Open-era record of tennis Superstar Steffi Graf with 22 major wins, as posted by Oregon Live.
In most cases, Williams' win could have made her one of the America's sweethearts but not this time, or not anytime. She is love not ony as the greatest female tennis player of all time and America's only current athlete who dominates a major sport but also because of her old age, according to Stuff News.
It is out in the open that Williams is not a darling of the press. She is a very independent woman who does not care about what other may think or say about her and vice versa.
A couple of incidents of her being outspoken both on and off the court has put her on a pedestal as somewhat a John McEnroe of the women's division like the 2009 U.S. Open when she snapped at a judge who made a dodgy call. She was quoted shouting directly at the line judge "to take this F-ing ball and shove it down your f-ing throat," to which many viewers has seen her true color.
Sadly, there are a lot of athletes who has made blunders over the years, but in Williams' case, the issue was ever since co-existed along her since it happened. On the other hand, her supporters and fans has made an argument that if a male tennis player has made the same gesture, people might have praised that athlete for being competitive.
