Axing rumors no longer hound the Netflix series “Marco Polo” now on its Season 2. However, there are reports that executives of the show are looking for a new home for Season 3.
The Hollywood Reporter said that Netflix executive Ted Sarandos, in a roundtable discussion with other TV executives to tackle the changing business of television, may look beyond Netflix for the series’ next season. He reportedly discussed the future direction of the show with Richard Plepler of HBO, Josh Sapan of AMC, Nancy Dubuc of A+E and Bonnie Hammer off NBCUniversal.
Although “Marco Polo” is not getting rave reviews, the show’s executives are pushing for another season for the sake of the fans who have been clamoring for another one. MNR Daily noted the efforts of the show to place emphasis on the more intimate aspect of conflict by “showcasing splendid martial arts sequences.”
Sarandos too believes that “Marco Polo” “has done exactly ‘what it was supposed to do.’” Media observers agree that it would be a great loss for Netflix to let go of the series.
If ever there would be a Season 3, Benedict Wong, the actor who plays Kublai Khan would appear less but not axed from the series contrary to earlier speculations. Crossmap noted the series is the most diverse show in Hollywood with Asia, Persian, Chinese, Mongolian and many more ethnicities playing important roles.
