“House of Cards” Season 5 is expected to be released in 2017.

Mahershala Ali's Remy Danton was one of the key players in the political world of Netflix's "House of Cards." Four seasons later, Ali has left the show to pursue another big series project.

Ali made the big reveal in an interview with GQ, saying his "done with 'House of Cards.'" "I've never talked about it. It's time to go. I want to do more. There's only so much space for you to stretch and develop and grow because there are so many characters," he said about the Netflix political thriller, which stars Kevin Spacey.

In the same interview, Ali admitted that playing Remy in "House of Cards" was his breakthrough role. The series has led to even bigger opportunities for the 42-year-old actor, such as "Hunger Games: Mockingjay" where he played Boggs.

After closing his "House of Cards" stint, Ali is set to star in Netflix's "Luke Cage" series, where he will star alongside Mike Colter.

In the meantime, "House of Cards" Season 5 spoiler suggests that time may have come for Frank Underwood's fall. There are several theories on this, including a possibility that his close ally Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) might turn against him. Although possible, treachery between the two is highly unlikely, and as Kelly puts it, his and Spacey's characters are "the only two people that each of them could count on."

"We saw Claire turn on Frank last year. You've never seen Doug turn on Frank," Kelly told CNN. "We've never seen Frank turn on Doug. And they trust each other to the ends of the Earth so that's where Doug belongs. That's where he is. That's where he thrives in life.

"House of Cards" Season 5 is the show's first outing after former showrunner Beau Willimon's exit. He has since been succeeded by Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson, whom Kelly describes as "incredible."

Filming for "House of Cards" Season 5 began in July this year in Baltimore. "House of Cards" Season 5 is expected to hit Netflix in 2017 as it sticks to its traditional first-quarter premiere date. Main cast members Spacey, Kelly and Robin Wright have reprised their roles.
