After "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure" production indefinitely shut down because lead actor Dylan O'Brien suffered serious injuries on the set on March 17, 20th Century Fox recently announced that filming will resume in Feb. 2017. The accident made it impossible to resume the production immediately.
O'Brien was said to be in a harness on top of a moving vehicle but he was accidentally pulled off from the vehicle and hit by another. His face was injured and he reportedly fractured either his orbital socket or cheekbone. The production was supposed to get back on May 9 but was postponed so the actor can have more time to recover.
O'Brien was spotted for the first time early last month when an employee from Jamba Juice got a photo with him. He was also in a photo with a fan this week. While his accident worried his co-stars and fans, the actor already looked healthy and well.
The production however is reportedly changing location from British Columbia to a new one, according to SlashFilm. Wes Ball still directs the third instalment of the Young Adult franchise that is adapted from one of the series of the popular James Dashner books. The script is penned by T.S. Nowlin and the film is due for release on Jan. 12, 2018.
The story follows 16-year-old Thomas (O'Brien) whose memory was erased when he found himself in an elevator. He has been delivered to an intricate maze with other boys who have been trying to find their way out in an ever-changing labyrinth and a society they call Glade. The film's two predecessors "The Maze Runner" released in Sept. 2014 and "The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" (Sept. 2015) both achieved commercial success.
In the final sequel of the trilogy, everything has been taken from Thomas by the Killzone Experiment Department (WICKED or WCKD). Thomas lost his memory, his Gladers friends and his life and while the trials have ended, there is one final test.
Unknown to the WCKD, Thomas remembers and he cannot believe everything they say. Thomas beat the Maze, survived the Scorch and is set to save his friends, no matter what.
"The Maze: The Death Cure" also stars Kaya Scodelario, Dexter Darden, Jacob Lofland, Patricia Clarkson, Will Poilter, Nathalie Emmanual, Aidan Gillen, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Giancarlo Esposito, Barry Pepper, Rosa Salazar and Ki Hong Lee. Producing the project are Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman and Wyck Godfrey, Deadline reported.
The YA sci-fi adventures "The Maze Runner" franchise could still continue with two prequel books if the upcoming third sequel will succeed. The published prequel books reveal the events leading to "The Maze Runner."
