'Gangnam Style' singer PSY establishes new music label PSYG under YG Entertainment

South Korean rapper and songwriter PSY best known for his global hit song "Gangnam Style" has established his own music label under his management agency. His new music label is called PSYG, a sub-label of YG Entertainment.

PSY's independent label PSYG under YG has finished relevant documentation in June, Yonhap News reported. YG already has two independent labels - HIGHGRND or High Ground by Tablo and The Black Label by Kush, ZionT and Teddy. They are designed to let individual artists explore the music world and create synergy among artists in the company.

For now, the sub-label of YG just have PSY. He will supervise the music production of artists under its label. Providing management will be YG, according to The Jakarta Post.

PSY got into a five-year contract with YG in 2010. He had expressed his intention to set up his own label in 2012 to YG's Chief Executive Officer Yang Hyun Suk agreed. YG is the home of some of South Korea's famous actors and music artists, including SEVEN, BIGBANG, 2NE1 and most recently, the four-girl group, BLACKPINK.

Born Park Jae Sang on Dec. 31, 1977 in South Korea, PSY enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1997. Using The South Korean pop star proved that good looks and good choreography are not everything it takes to succeed. With sense of humor, PSY launched into global stardom with the hit "Gangnam Style."

PSY's single "Gangnam Style" soared to international charts with its catchy tune and "horsey" dance moves. Famous singers like Britney Spears, commented on the video which became a hit on YouTube. It has more than 2 billion video views on YouTube, and it is the most viewed video in history.

"Gangnam Style" likewise led on iTunes Music Video charts, and entered Billboard Hot 200. PSY, who is fluent in the English language, was invited to the United States and many other countries to guest on shows like CNN in Aug. 2012, MTV Video Music Awards, "Saturday Night Live," and a lot more.
