Fox unveils new 'Gotham' Season 3 trailer, offers sneak peek of villains

Joining Gotham Season 3's roster of baddies is Mad Hatter, who will be played by "The Walking Dead" alum Benedict Samuel.

A brand new trailer of "Gotham" Season 3 has been released by Fox network. Coming close on the heels of the season's premiere in this very month, the promo is quite serious and offers a fine look at the new villains that will be treating us with their antics and action in the coming season.

The prequel series, claimed not to be a prequel by the network, will be debuting later this month, and the trailer has been titled "Mad City," reports Collider. From the looks, it seems quite serious and one can feel that the show is moving into a slightly severe territory.

It does not seem like the earlier seasons that were reportedly cartoonish and ridiculous by most standards. It feels as though the showrunners have finally decided to improve and thus, the viewers can finally see some real drama.

As for the trailer, it is promising. Still, one cannot help but notice the undertones of the cartoonish stuff. Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" gives out the severe and raw feel but the visuals do not fit with the acapella cover. The makeup, set design and dialogue seem over-the-top. Therefore, it remains to be seen if the season has actually improved or is lingering along the same lines.

As far as content is concerned, the preview video introduces viewers to a host of fresh villains, reports IGN. One can see Poison Ivy, who has all grown up and looks quite dangerous. Played by Maggie Geha, the character has been recast and this time, we will get to see a more sexual version of the villainess. There is also the proto version of Killer Croc and the news outlet claims that Kieran Mulcare will appear as Solomon Grundy.

It may be mentioned here that the show "Gotham" was originally meant to be a grounded, street-level show revolving around the early life of James Gordon in the Gotham police force. However, it turned out to be a very different affair and the first two seasons did not live up to the expectations of the viewers. They were not at all in sync with what had been envisioned.
