The Next Spider-Man Could be Black -- or Latino

Spider-Man

Goodbye, Andrew Garfield or any white guy for that matter.

It seems the next Spider-Man at the movies will be anything but a white dude. Rumors racing through Hollywood speculate the next Spidey will either be an African-American or a Latino.

The odds-on favorite, however, is a black Spider-Man.

And, by the way, the new non-white Spidey won't be named Peter Parker.

These are the juiciest bits of dish out there about the new Spider-Man.

And why are they thinking of altering Spidey's race? It seems Marvel and Sony Pictures want to reboot the Spider-Man movie franchise, meaning out with the old and in with the new to make people forget Sony's huge problems of late (think of the hack that exposed incriminating emails).

Also, they're scared the next Spider-Man movies will bomb at the box office unless something really drastic happens in the franchise to grab public attention.

Jeff Sneider of entertainment website The Wrap is 95 percent certain the next "Spider-Man is not going to be white".

"Spider-Man is going to be most likely black. But there is a chance he could also be Latino."

Sneider speculates Marvel and Sony's decision to go for a black Spider-Man in the reboot is not "set in stone", however. But given Sneider's credibility, this latest rumor might turn out to be true.

One thing about Sneider's prediction is his use of the word "black" to describe the next Spider-Man. Black could mean African-American or a black from another country like, say, Britain or the UK. Reminds you of the rumors of a black James Bond, doesn't it.

We'll definitely know what's on the minds of Marvel and Sony in the next few months. Will their minds be black?
