A lot of "Sleepy Hollow" fans are still bummed about Nicole Beharie's exit from the series. But the show must go on, and it appears Ichabod Crane has moved on with a new leading lady.
Recently, a photo of "Sleepy Hollow" star Tom Mison hugging his new leading lady, Janina Gavankar, made rounds on the internet. "After standing in line at Dragon Con, I finally got my one-on-one photo with Tom Mison," Gavankar captioned the photo she shared on Instagram.
As per TVLine, Gavankar joins the "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 cast as Diana, a Secret Service agent who will work closely with Mison's Crane as he makes the move to Washington D.C.
Diana is a single mother. She previously worked in the military, but is now a Special Agent for Homeland Security. The character has a tough personality, but also has a soft-side, especially when it comes to her daughter. Her being a non-believer in the supernatural initially fuels conflict with Crane.
Like Crane, Diana also suffered the loss of her partner who went down in the line of duty. This "shared sense of loss" brings the two closer together to the point that they realize "they have another important point of connection.
The show's decision to kill off Beharie's Abbie Mills, one-half of the show's leading duo, proved unpopular to fans. After the final episode of "Sleepy Hollow" Season 3 aired, fans expressed their disappointment at Beharie's departure from the show. Fox admitted that it "was obviously a very hard" decision to make.
"Crane and Abbie were the spine of the show in a lot of ways, so it was difficult to figure out of it was right thing to do, to continue or not," Fox entertainment president David Madden said about the decision to kill off the character.
Mison also spoke on the matter, giving full credit to Abbie as an important part of the show. "Abbie is the one the audience can relate to so when you're entering this insane world of Sleepy Hollow, you go with Abbie," Mison told The Realistic Optimist. "She's been the guide and Ichabod is this insane man in the periphery."
But even without Beharie, Fox was determined to renew "Sleepy Hollow" for a fourth season, especially after the show's writers introduced a new set of characters and pitched interesting new storylines to continue Ichabod's journey.
"Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 is scheduled to premiere in 2017.
