Congratulations are in order for Mel Gibson and girlfriend Rosalind Ross, who are expecting their first child together.
Ross, 26, who has been dating the "Braveheart" actor for two years, will become the mother of his ninth child and the little bundle of joy is expected to arrive early next year, People confirmed.
Gibson, 60, is excited about becoming a father again, a source close to the couple revealed to the publication. "Mel and Rose are so excited about the baby," the source said. "Mel loves being a dad and he and Rose can't wait to be parents together. The last two years have been some of his happiest years he's ever had."
Ross is a former champion in the sport of equestrian vaulting, which requires participants to perform dance and gymnastics on horseback. She now works as a screenwriter and her credits include the 2014 television series "Matador."
Gibson has eight other children from previous relationships; a daughter named Hannah and six sons - Edward, William, Thomas, Milo, Louis and Christian from his ex-wife, Robyn Moore, whom he was married to for 28 years. The actor also shares a six-year-old daughter, Lucia, with former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, US Weekly reported.
Last month, Grigorieva lost $500,000 out of the $750,000 settlement amount she was due to receive from the actor after she violated terms of their agreement and publicly spoke about their domestic abuse case on The Howard Stern Show in 2013, as previously reported.
Gibson was recently in the news for his directorial venture "Hacksaw Ridge," which received a 10-minute standing ovation following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month and is already being considered as an Oscar-worthy film.
The actor has a busy schedule ahead with "The Professor and the Madman," which also stars Sean Penn, expected to start filming in Europe soon.
