A recent trailer of "Birth of the Dragon" hinted on the fight Bruce Lee encountered during his younger years. As a martial arts inspired movie, "Birth of the Dragon" is expected to be a classic Kung Fu which depicts the true to life battle between a young Lee and Shaolin Master Wong Jack Man.
According to a report by Collider, both Lee and Wong's version holds different statements of what really transpired during battle, with Lee claiming he overthrew his opponent in just three minutes, while Wong asserted the encounter lasted 20 minutes with no definite victor.
The fight originally took place in Northern California in 1965 but the film had its shooting locations in various parts of San Francisco, NBC Bay Area reported. Bruce Lee is played by Hong Kong and martial arts master Philip Ng. On the other hand, Wong Jack Man who is already 75 years old is now living in the Bay Area.
The movie started filming last November 2015 in Vancouver, Canada under the direction of martial arts choreographer Corey Yuen. Yuen previously worked sequence for films such as "X-Men," "The Expendables," and "Romeo Must Die."
According to the official synopsis released, "Birth of the Dragon" is written by Chris Wilkinson and Stephen Rivele who were the Oscar-nominated screenwriters of "Ali" and "Nixon." The duo has added fictional characters whose purpose is to be intertwined in the upcoming fight between the legendary martial artists.
The film will be directed by George Nolfi, who directed "Adjustment Bureau." Since it was announced during the Toronto International Film Festival, "Birth of the Dragon" does not have a release date yet.
Film producer Michael London said he is thrilled to reveal one of the greatest stories in the history of martial arts, adding that this particular fight is one of the unique moments in the Chinese and Western audiences since both cultures are able to open up "as never before."
