NVidia GTX 1050 is a new graphics card targeting budget gamers.

Just when AMD managed to outdo Nvidia GTX Ti with the RX 460, Nvidia bounced back by launching the GTX 1050. From then on, the two tech giants have battled for superiority in the arena of entry level graphic cards, with competition remaining stiff between AMD RX 460 and Nvidia GTX 1050.

The RX 460 houses a GPU codenamed Baffin XT, containing 16 Compute Units activated and, accordingly, 1024 Shader Processing units, 16 ROPs, and 64 TMUs. Its central unit runs at 1400 MHz.

According to Tom's Hardware, the GTX 1050, on the other hand, equips a GPU dubbed GP107-400, which contains 8 SM activated and, therefore, 1024 Shader Processing Units, 32 ROPS, and 48 TMUs.  Its central unit runs at a frequency of 1316MHz and escalates to 1380MHz when boosted.

In terms of memory, the two are not far apart as the RX 460 shares a 128-bit GDDR5 memory interface and a 112 GB/s memory bandwidth with its rival. The memory clock in GTX's GPU also matches that of the RX with only a slight difference of 50MHz.

Judging by TFLOPS, the GTX 1050  comes with 2.1 which is lower than AMD's Radeon RX 460 2.2 at peak performance. Both are ideal for playing games such as "League of Legends,"DOTA 2," and "Overwatch" at HD resolutions. For excellent performance, they should be accompanied by a minimum RAM of 8GB, according to Game-Debate.

As is the case with the specs, it is important to note that both cards have several variants. For example, the NVidia's GTX 1050 will arrive next month in two variants, namely, GeForce GTX 1050 2GB ($119) and the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB ($149).

The 4GB variant of RX 460 retails at  $159 on AMD's website, making it a very close competitor of the GTX 1050. AMD also rivals NVidia with other mainstream cards like the Radeon RX 480 and the RX 470 although these are more expensive.

In terms of price, the RX 460 slightly overshadows Nvidia GTX 1050. But actual perfomance tests have found that Nvidia GTX 1050 handles higher FPS than its rival.
